Although the varsity boys’ basketball team took a tough loss against South Garland, they were able to bounce back and defeat Sachse 59-51 this past week.

“This win was very important for us since we had to play the best teams in the district first,” senior guard Ke’vante Harris expressed. “It’s good to get another win to keep our confidence up.”

After suffering a severe ankle sprain and missing out on the action for three weeks, Harris made a terrific comeback as he led the Rangers with 16 points. Seniors Jordan Jones and Chris Coley followed up with 14 and 12 points respectively. Christian Holly crashed the boards aggressively, snatching 12 rebounds.

The guys explained how they tried to treat it like any other game. “I always lay down and just relax while listening to music,” shared Harris. “I think it makes a difference because it helps get me locked in and focused.”

Playing at home was an advantage for the boys as well. “Playing in front of a home crowd gives us more confidence and motivation to play harder,” said Coley, senior forward.

Basketball is all about having confidence in your teammates. Your success depends on how well the boys work together and the level of confidence that they have in their ability to execute the game plan on the court. Throughout this season, the chemistry between these boys has been evident.

“I love my team,” explained Jones, senior forward. “They are my brothers and we’re always ten toes down from each other.”

The boys will continue to look forward as they get set to face off against South Garland again next Tuesday, January 30th.
