AP Exams: Is the Stress Worth it?

AP Exams: Is the Stress Worth it?

Madeline Crosby, 12, Staff Writer

Every student entering high school is pressured to take AP classes.

‘It’ll get you  money for college if you pass!’ Is the one reason every single teacher, counselor, even parents tell the kid, and because money is involved, no one really questions it.

Senior Jacque Adame, has taken five AP classes throughout high school, so she knows a thing or five about the real struggles in AP classes.

”I thought taking AP classes would help bring up my GPA, but it didn’t,” Jacque stated. “It’s a scam, but I don’t regret taking AP, cause I learned more than I would’ve in any of the regular classes.”

Although you hear about how traumatizing AP classes can be students still add them to their schedule.

“I needed to pick up my GPA, and regulars classes don’t teach students what they can learn,” junior Mau Silos said.

Some students take AP classes to help pave the way for the future.

”I need to prepare for college and make it look good on my transcript.” sophomore Zoe Mendoza said.

Students are pressured by their parents and teachers, yet they still choose to take AP classes.

Get advice from peers on  whether or not to take the classes.

”It’s definitely stressful, but don’t take anything you can’t handle, because it’s just going to negatively affect you in the long run,” Zoe expressed.

The end result of successfully completing AP classes can be beneficial, but be in it for the long haul.

“Be prepared, it starts off easy, but it’s actually a lot of work to keep up with,” Jacque said.

AP classes are tough and include a large amount of homework. Juggling that with  some kind of extracurricular activity, it may be hard to find time to do homework, and also still have a social life.

Because of the time students spend on homework, it’s assumed that they are well prepared for their exams.

“I already know I’m going to fail…,” Zoe said with a straight face.

Completing homework and paying attention in class should help pay off when exams roll around.

“The exams make me feel like I should’ve paid more attention to the little things we learned in class!” Jacque said with her hand to her head.

The Timberline wishes all the students taking AP tests, Good Luck! We know you’ll do great! Don’t stress it! You got this!
